Do you know what tonight is?  The start of the Olympics!  I love the Olympics!  It’s such a cool event where people from countries all over the world are able to get together and compete in global sports.  I also enjoy the opening ceremonies (which is tomorrow) and seeing the native clothes from the different competing countries.

Olympic Medal Cookies

Of course, you know there can’t be an event without snacks to go along with it!  For the Olympic occasion I didn’t bake anything.  I didn’t even cook anything.  I simply assembled a Gold Medal treat that was easy to make and fun to eat.  I’m serving these up later on this month to my students and I know they will love them!

These Olympic Medal cookies are simply purchased cookies dipped in chocolate and covered in sprinkles.  I wasn’t able to find any bronze sprinkles so I used a combination of orange and gold together.  Then I lay them out on a try with ribbon so it looked like the cookie medals were hanging from the ribbon.

This is a great activity to get the kids involved in too.  The can pour the sprinkles over the chocolate dipped cookies, help arrange the “medals” on a cookie tray, or cut the ribbon for the medals.

Now the most important question, what is your favorite Winter Olympic Sport?  I’m a big fan of figure skating, bobsledding, and snowboarding.

Olympic Medal Cookies (from Party Pinching)

24 sandwich cookies

12 oz. white chocolate candy wafers

Gold, Silver, and Orange sprinkles

Colored Ribbon

1.  Put the white chocolate wafers in a microwave safe dish.  Heat for 1 minute in the microwave and stir.  Continue heating for 30 seconds at a time until the chocolate is completely melted.

2.  Dip the cookies into the chocolate one at a time, tapping off the excess chocolate and laying it on a piece of waxed paper.  Dip 3-4 cookies at a time.

3.  Sprinkle 1/3 of the cookies with gold sprinkles and  1/3 of the cookies with silver sprinkles.  Mix some of the gold and some of the orange sprinkles together to make the bronze and sprinkle that over 1/3 of the cookies.

4.  Allow the chocolate on the cookies to harden, about 20 minutes.  Display the cookies on a plate along with colored ribbons behind them to look like medals.
